One senior officer who jumped to the assistance of a colleague who was ambushed by a knifeman was granted the Monarch's Honor for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a knife to the neck of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist after a traffic accident in the area in summer 2023.

Brown attacked with blade the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a electric weapon.

"Officer knifed," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his communication device.

Officer-mounted and dashboard camera footage made public by the police department showed Brown, that was clothed in dark clothing with a hood covering head, approach to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife outstretched.

He struck the officer who tripped and went down to the ground, after which Sgt Ansell jumped in and attempted to subdue him to the pavement even though being multiple times hit with the weapon.

Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a open target, concluding the fight to an conclusion.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "I need assistance on my neck now, I've been stabbed in the neck."

Sgt Ansell sustained multiple deep cuts to his neck and additional injuries to his limbs and body, while Sergeant Foster experienced cut injuries.

Officials said Sgt Foster utilized his palms to stem his fellow officer's blood loss prior to medical personnel arrived.

This most recent honor comes after the three officers received departmental Bravery Awards in late 2023 and the police federation award from the local Police Federation in early 2024.

They were also awarded a North West Bravery Award in mid-2024.

"The efforts of the entire team in the end saved one another and meant no civilians endured any harm."

Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, according to authorities.
